What Is the Chancenkarte?

The Chancenkarte is a points-based visa designed to attract skilled professionals to Germany. It’s an excellent option if you’re eager to relocate but don’t have a job offer yet.

Here’s what you need to know:

• Duration: Up to 12 months

• Purpose: To search for a job in Germany

• Benefits: No job offer required at the time of application

• Requirements: Proof of funds to support yourself while job hunting

Who Is Eligible for the Chancenkarte?

Eligibility is based on a points system, and you need at least 6 points to qualify. Points are awarded in the following categories:

Language proficiency is mandatory, even if it doesn’t always contribute to your points. You can prove your skills in German or English.

Step by Step Guide to Applying for the Chancenkarte

1. Check Your Points

Use the official German eligibility tool to confirm you meet the 6-point minimum.

2. Prepare Your Documents

This step is crucial for success.

You’ll need:

• Passport

• Degree certificates (translated and recognized)

• Proof of work experience (letters, contracts, or portfolios)

• Health insurance that meets German standards

• Proof of financial stability (via a blocked account like Fintiba or a part-time job offer in Germany to cover cost of living)

• Motivation Letter explaining why you’re applying, your career plans, and how you intend to find a job

• Proof of Accommodation, such as a hotel booking for at least one month or a rental agreement

Extra Tips for Document Preparation:

1. Organize Everything: Clearly label your documents and keep everything in order. Use folders or dividers to make it easy to present them at your visa appointment.

2. Translate and Notarize: Make sure your degree certificates, work experience letters, and other required documents are translated into German or English by a certified translator.

3. Proof of Accommodation: We recommend you to book a hotel for one month and include this with a declaration letter explaining that this initial stay would give you enough time to find a permanent place.

4. Consider Using Fintiba: This is just our personal opinion, but Fintiba was a lifesaver for us. They helped open a blocked account, sorted out health insurance, and provided embassy-ready documents. It saved so much time and stress!

3. Recognize Your Degree

Submit your degree to ZAB for official recognition. It costs about €200 and takes 3–6 months. Alternatively, check Anabin to see if your degree is already recognized.

4. Book a Visa Appointment

Finding an appointment for the long-term visa can take one to two months, so plan ahead to avoid delays.

5. Submit Your Application

At your embassy appointment, present all required documents and be ready to discuss your career plans, job search strategy, and qualifications.
